Mahatma Gandhi was a strong believer of natural healing practices and adopted it to his lifestyle up to an extent that he practiced it even on domestic animals. Dr Hira Lal, who was follower of Mahatma Gandhi was so impressed that he became a strong believer and a pillar to promote Natural Healing Practices and Yoga. He started working towards its revival and survival in India. Dr Hira Lal not only practiced naturopathy in treating various patients but also adopted the same in his lifestyle. He was so deeply involved in promoting these natural healing practices that he wanted to spread this to people from all walks of life. Along with Mahashya Tirth Ram and Dr N.S. Adhikari, he started an institute in Una (HP) under the name and style of THE INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION OF NATURAL HEALTH AND YOGA (IFNHY). The main objective of this institute was and is to spread awareness and educate the public at large to adopt the practices of natural healing in the daily life. Dr Hira Lal had written many books on Naturopathy and Yoga which were used as text books in the institutes. Despite being of out of print nowadays, they are still being used as reference books for practicing Natural Healing and Yoga. The most popular among all was ‘. ‘. The promotion and working of institute IFNHY, was entrusted to Dr N.S. Adhikari, who diligently and with sincerity carried out the same, in the memory of Dr Hira Lal. 9th of April, his birthday, is being celebrated as NATURAL HEALTH DAY (PRAKRITIK CHIKITSA DIWAS).
